Our Five Christian Principles
We have prayers of Thanksgiving before meals & snacks.
We teach from a creation perspective when we talk about topics relating to people and God’s creation such as animals, plants, birds, fish and all that is part of what we see and do each day.
We have Bible songs with our themes and use Bible topics with our art projects.
Our teachers model good character qualities such as honesty, responsibility, kindness, love, and respect and teach them to the children daily.
We are non-denominational and we teach from a basic Bible perspective.
Big Steps Little Feet is centrally located in the heart of downtown Ada, providing walk-ability to local shops and parks for all our ages. Our convenient location allows us to take children to nearby events and activities aboard our child friendly buses. Many of these educational field trips take place during our Summer season. We also use our buses for transportation before and after school to local elementary schools.
In our curriculum, we incorporate a Christian aspect including prayers before all our meals including breakfast, lunch, and snack. Our prayers are child friendly and easy to learn. In each classroom, we also incorporate Children’s Bible stories along with activities that correlate with the story that was read. Our staff models character qualities to our children such as gratefulness, kindness, respect, and thankfulness. We also teach these character qualities in each class throughout the day.
Hours of Operation
Big Steps Little Feet hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:00AM-5:30PM. We provide a flexible schedule for both full-time and part-time families. We have a part-time minimum requirement of 3 full days per week. Our guidelines for half days are 5 hours or less, choosing from either AM or PM. We also offer after school care for our school age children through age 8. For children enrolled in our Big Steps After School Program, we also provide care for snow days and school breaks.
Since the opening of Big Steps Little Feet in 1994, we have grown from one classroom to 15 classrooms in our current two-building facility. We provide care for children ages 6 weeks through 12 years. Our facility is divided into infant, toddler, preschool, and school-age classrooms with an open floor concept. An added benefit in our infant and toddler rooms is our in-floor heating system which helps our littles stay warm in the winter. Both of our infant classrooms have a separate sleeping room to ensure a better nap experience. Each one of our classrooms, as well as our innovative playground, have a live video feed for our parents to enjoy anytime of the day. Parents are invited to utilize this feature while at work or traveling. Our playground is 75% AstroTurf with a variety of activities to keep any child in a stimulating learning environment while in our outdoor classroom.
Meet the BSLF Leadership Team!
Director of Operations
I grew up in Grand Rapids and met my husband, Clay, in college. We have been married for 15 years and have 2 children; our son, Ledge (7), and our daughter, Azalea (2). My husband owns a small business and we live in Ada. I earned my BSW from GVSU, and I am pursuing my Masters in Public Admin. Now at BSLF, I will be encouraging every child to be prepared for their next step toward success!
Mr. Rob: Owner and Founder
My name is Rob Young and I have been married to my wife, Annette, for 39 years. I have six children and six grandchildren.
25 years ago, I began Big Steps Little Feet as a concept of helping parents to find a safe and nurturing option to place their children, while at work. Big Steps has become a place for children to be able to learn and grow as an extension of their home. Applying Christian based values is important to me while teaching a broad spectrum of skills to the appropriate ages. We wanted to create an environment where quality care and education harmonized with fun and growth. Big Steps Little Feet is a place where the future is born in your children. Thank you for allowing us to serve the community while inviting your child to thrive and grow.

Owner & Founder
I grew up and currently still live in Lowell. I have been married to my husband, Joe, since 2003 and we have two children, Ava (13) and Kaiden (11). Outside of Big Steps, I am a proud dance and baseball mom and I also enjoy crafting. I have been a part of the Big Steps Team since 2003. Before moving into my current position, I was a lead teacher for our preschoolers. I love encouraging children and watching them learn and grow!
My husband, Steve, and I have 6 children. Our oldest son graduated from college last year, two of our daughters are currently in college, and three children are at home. 25 years ago, I was the first director of Big Steps Little Feet where I enjoyed working with Rob Young in developing a great center. My background in Early Childhood Development and love for children were a great combination for an amazing start. Now as center director, I look forward to helping Big Steps Little Feet become even better at supporting families and caring for their children in the best way possible!
I grew up in Ada, married an amazing man from Seattle and have two children, Adalyn (8) and Ethan (5). My husband, Ryan, and I have been married since 2006 and live in Grand Rapids. I earned my Paralegal Certificate from Davenport University and am now excited to be pursuing a career here at Big Steps Little Feet! Each day brings a new adventure and an opportunity to nurture your children, our future generation.
